Radio has been and
continues to be the oldest yet most reliable medium of mass communication
across the globe. In the present context information broadcasting holds a
primary status in the society. It is often considered as the only means of
connecting the pan India audience via frequency transmission of information.
Even today when our country has a divided and diversified socio-economic fabric, there are millions of people who fail to afford a television. Newspapers and radio help fill in this gap of information distribution, which otherwise is not received by many.
Commercial Radio which includes the private FM stations has been recognized as an important means of entertainment for the listeners across the country. News on Radio is however, limited to only government licensed stations like the All India Radio(AIR).
Entailing itself as the fastest emerging sector, radio continues to contribute immensely to the economy of the media Industry in India. At present, there are about 245 FM channels covering 85 cities and the total number of new channels proposed by the govt. of India in the next phase is 839 covering 294 cities. At the local level, the number of community radio stations has risen fast from 64 in 2009 to 163 in 2014.The purpose of a radio communication was realized with the growing need of being aware among the masses.

Considering the significance of Radio Industry in the broadcast mass media world, Manav Rachna is one of the Universities to initiate a special one year diploma programme in radio production.
This Diploma course is a special Radio training program prepared specifically for one year training in different roles in a Radio production. This programme has been uniquely designed to incorporate the basic understanding of Radio, its history, the process of information communication via radio , the scope of the industry and the techniques of Radio production.
This Practice based
course provides a good opportunity to have a hands on experience n the
production activities in a Radio station. A thorough working knowledge in sound
recording, audio editing, post prodyction techniques, live broadcasting,
presenting, scripting, content research to name a fewhave been accomodated in
this compact practical course.
Radio programmes are no
more restricted to 'a particular kind of shows', rather it is
a diversified platform that allows students to go all creative and
host documentary, feature, news or entertainment, radio-drama and fiction based
production shows.
Radio
programme production course in Manav Rachna international University, (MRIU)presents the opportunity to understand the media and the digital age in which
we live, through construction and deconstruction of media products, institutions
and audiences, whilst developing a wide range of essential, transferable
abilities that will be welcome in many graduate roles.
This practice-based
course covers technical and
practical aspects of radio production and would be delivered the Department of
Media Studies and Radio Manav Rachna. There would also be opportunities for
work placements at the end of the course.
After graduation one
